About the Item
This striking, signed print depicting a nude male figure falling from a bridge, is from a set of prints made by Adolf Uzarski, a German artist, illustrating scenes from the ancient Tutinama ("Tales of the Parrot") stories from 14th century Persia. Each tale had a moral purpose, and was told by a parrot to its master, a women left alone by her husband while he traveled, to discourage any romantic dalliances with other men. Uzarski, at the time he produced this series of prints, became a member of "Das Junge Rheinland" or Young Rhineland, and he became known for his critiques of the German bourgeoisie. He was condemned as a "degenerate artist" by the Nazi regime in the 1930s, and hid away in Belgium until after World War II. (Dimensions include matte and frame.).
