It originates from Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux de Paradis et des Rolliers, a monumental work published between 1806 and 1808 under the direction of the Dutch naturalist Coenraad Jacob Temminck. The detailed illustration was executed by Jean-Gabriel Prêtre, a skilled ornithological artist known for his precision in capturing the unique characteristics of exotic bird species. This print features a black starling, a striking bird with an entirely dark plumage that appears almost iridescent under light. The subtle variations in shading and texture give depth to the depiction, showcasing the intricate feather structure.
