About the Item

Title: 19th-Century Hand-Coloured Lithograph Compilation of Swords, Firearms, and Weaponry Description: This expertly hand-coloured lithograph compilation features an impressive assortment of medieval and early modern weapons, showcasing the evolution of European armaments. Taken from the 1842 publication 'Der Rittersaal: Eine Geschichte des Ritterthums', authored by Friedrich Martin von Reibisch with historical insights from Dr. Franz Kottenkamp, these prints celebrate both the craftsmanship and functionality of historical arms. The left panel displays five finely detailed weapons: 1. A matchlock firearm, indicative of early gunpowder technology. 2. A straight broadsword with a crossguard hilt, favored for its balance and cutting edge. 3. A two-handed sword, marked by its imposing blade and sturdy pommel. 4. A curved sabre with a gilded grip, likely used by cavalry for swift strikes. 5. A polearm featuring a hooked blade, designed to unseat mounted opponents. The right panel highlights an eclectic array of tools and weapons, including a 'spiked mace', a 'decorative sword hilt', an ornate blade, and a war hammer, alongside smaller components such as a hooked dagger and chain weapon. The golden pommels and intricate engravings on several pieces reflect their ceremonial and practical roles. Condition: This lithograph compilation is in excellent condition, with vibrant colouring, sharp details, and only minimal age-related toning. The fine hand-applied colouring enhances the visual appeal and historical authenticity of the pieces. This set is ideal for collectors of medieval and early modern weaponry, military history, or fine historical art. It serves as both a decorative showpiece and a valuable reference, capturing the artistry and ingenuity of European arms and armor.
