Joel Otterson "The Mighty Oak of Rock" 1993 Etching Framed Music Rock n Roll

About the Item

Joel Otterson - The Mighty Oak of Rock, 1993. Etching, 4/35 from the Cincinnati portfolio II published by Mark Patsfall Graphics. A good etching of a full, mature oak tree, the branches crowded with names/logos of great rock bands, with the truly great on the lower branches (Bowie, Stooges, Pistols, etc). The higher you climb in this tree, the more questionable some of the choices become.     Sans Frame - 19” x 27”

An etching and aquatint by Victor Pasmore from his portfolio titled "The Dance of Man in Modern Times". Victor Pasmore was one of the leading members of the English school of Abstract Expressionism. Please note this is one print from a larger portfolio. Other prints from this portfolio are available. A bit about Pasmore- Beginning in 1947, he developed a purely abstract style under the influence of Ben Nicholson and other artists associated with Circle, becoming a pioneering figure of the revival of interest in Constructivism in Britain following the War. [6] Pasmore's abstract work, often in collage and construction of reliefs, pioneered the use of new materials and was sometimes on a large architectural scale. Herbert Read described Pasmore's new style as "The most revolutionary event in post-war British art".[7] In 1950, he was commissioned to design an abstract mural for a bus depot in Kingston upon Thames[8] and the following year Pasmore contributed a mural to the Festival of Britain that promoted a number of the British Constructivists. Pasmore was a supporter of fellow artist Richard Hamilton, giving him a teaching job in Newcastle and contributing a constructivist structure to the exhibition "This Is Tomorrow" in collaboration with Erno Goldfinger and Helen Phillips...

  • Untitled, the Show Is over / Christopher Wool & Felix Gonzalez-Torres, 1993
    By Christopher Wool
    Located in London, GB
United Kingdom - Offset Lithograph on Paper, from the original show 1993 Christopher Wool’s paintings and prints explore the confluence of image, text, and pattern. They often feature enigmatic, confrontational found phrases or illegible scribbles, which are either stencilled or plastered in black across flat white fields. The artist occasionally covers the compositions with spray-paint marks and screen-printed elements (some taken from his previous works), erasing and relayering as he goes. His process—which focuses on the possibilities of reproduction, appropriation, and accretion—is as important as the results themselves. Wool studied at Sarah Lawrence College and the New York Studio School. New York’s vibrant 1970s downtown No Wave and punk scenes became major influences, and Wool reached his mature style in the mid-1980s. Wool has exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, London, Paris, Tokyo, Berlin, and beyond, and his work belongs in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Centre Pompidou, and the Tate. His work has achieved eight figures on the secondary market. Drawing from Minimalism and Conceptualism, Felix Gonzalez...
