This exquisite hand-colored engraving portrays a "Ritter des Heiligen Andreas Ordens in Russland" (Knight of the Order of St. Andrew in Russia), the most prestigious order of the Russian Empire, established in 1698 by Tsar Peter the Great. The knight is shown in full ceremonial regalia, wearing a white cloak with green accents, symbolizing purity and hope. His striking golden waistcoat adds a vibrant touch, while his red stockings provide a bold contrast. The ensemble is completed with a traditional black hat adorned with a feather and a blue St. Andrew's Cross.
Below the figure, the Order's insignia is beautifully illustrated, featuring two crowned eagles holding a blue cross with St. Andrew crucified. Surrounding the emblem are intricate floral motifs and additional heraldic symbols, underscoring the grandeur of this historic order.
