Lithography by Jean Picart Le Doux on Japanese paper

About the Item

Original colored lithograph on japanese paper, countersigned and numbered XXII/XXV by Jean PICART LE DOUX (1902-1982), depicting playful elements, including a five of diamonds and a dice. He was born in Paris in 1902, and soon abandoned his studies to work as a bookbinder in the publishing industry, before turning to advertising and graphic arts. He published his first works in 1935. He won the Grand Prix for theater posters. He created illustrations for Jean Cocteau, Maurice Ravel and Guillaume Apollinaire. It was Jean Lurçat who encouraged him to create his first tapestry cartoons, and together they participated in the tapestry revival from 1947 onwards. Picart Ledoux became Grand Master of Aubusson tapestry, and created the monumental tapestry Les phases du temps for the ocean liner France. In an attractive gilded wood frame. Sight 43 x 59 cm.
