The print is framed under glass with the original giltwood frame that is wired and ready to hang. Daybreak is a painting by American artist Maxfield Parrish made in 1922. Daybreak, inspired by the landscape of Vermont and New Hampshire to create lush and romantic tones, is regarded as the most popular art print of the 20th century, based on the number of prints made which was one for every four American homes. Frederick Maxfield Parrish was born July 25, 1870 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He died March 10, 1966 in Plainfield, New Hampshire. Parrish was an American illustrator and painter who was perhaps the most popular commercial artist in the United States in the first half of the 20th century. The son of an artist, Parrish was educated at Haverford College, Pennsylvania, and studied art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (l891–94) and the Drexel Institute of Art (1895), both in Philadelphia. Over the course of the next two decades, he created many posters, magazine covers, and book and advertising illustrations, and he also painted murals. By the 1920s, he was the highest-paid commercial artist in the United States. His popularity began to decline in the late 1930s but his illustrations never lost favor with some segments of the American public. There was a renewed appreciation of his work in the 1960s and 1970s. Parrish is best known for his depictions of fantasy landscapes populated by attractive young women. He used meticulously defined outlines and intricately detailed, natural backgrounds, and his unusual colors give his pictures a dreamlike and idyllic atmosphere.
