About the Item

Juan Torres Calderon is a portrait and manners painter, he identifies with Fauvism and Impressionism; He is also a promoter of the crafts of Capula, Michoacán. He received the Alfredo Zalce Plastic Arts Prize, of whom he was a student for a long time. The Clavijero Cultural Center wrote: his work harbors a perceptible sense of what is Mexican through representations of the traditional, which can be seen in the details of clothing, and in the emphasis on working on customs as deep-rooted as the Day of the Dead. At the same time, the sense of the universal is present, with representations of religiosity, death, sensuality and beauty.
