Neoclassical Print Aquatint Engraving by Sir William Hamilton

About

Sir William Hamilton (1730-1803) was England’s ambassador to Naples and as such he had the opportunity to collect Ancient Greek, Roman and Etruscan antiquities. Later in life he had his collection published in a series of engravings. Many of the hand colored prints were in terracotta and black. This beautiful example is of three woman surrounding a seated man in a chariot. It is in a decorative wood frame with a terracotta mat. The overall measurements are: 27"x21" (framed).
