Born in 1577 in Delfshaven, Hein gained lasting fame in 1628 when he captured the Spanish treasure fleet near Cuba, securing a massive fortune for the Dutch during the Eighty Years' War. His daring tactics and success made him a national hero and a symbol of Dutch maritime power.
Hein is portrayed in full military regalia, standing confidently with a sword in one hand and a plumed hat in the other.
