1807 William Daniell, Chameleon, Reptile, Hand Colored Aquatint

Designed and engraved by William Daniell for his work “Interesting Selections from Animated Nature.” Published by Cadell & Davies, London. Aquatint engraving, 1807. From the deluxe edition on large paper with the engravings executed on chine colle. Fine hand color. Overall size of leaf: 36.5 x 26.5 cm William Daniell (1769–1837) was painter, primarily of English landscapes and seaside images. Born to a bricklayer who died prematurely, young William was sent to live with his uncle Thomas Daniell, a prominent landscape artist. William subsequently became his uncle's assistant, traveling together through India preparing the drawings and sketches for Oriental Scenery, his greatest work. Daniell's works also include the remarkable A Voyage Round Great Britain, and he exhibited at the Royal Academy and the British Institution. Very light spotting to outer margins.
