Rare Mayumi Oda Silkscreen ‘May’ c1968
About the Item
Dubbed the Matisse of Japan. Mayumi Oda is a Japanese-born American artist born in 1941 and raised in post-war Japan. Oda graduated in 1966 from Tokyo University of Fine Arts, then studied at Pratt Graphic Centre in NYC. She is currently living in Hawaii, in her 90s, and no longer working. Her work is highly collectible and getting harder to find since she only did small editions.
Very rare hand-pulled silkscreen titled, “May”, which is from "Woman Calendar Series" from 1968. This is one of the first silkscreens that Oda ever did, This was from an edition of 15 and has never been reproduced since. Making this one of the earliest Oda silkscreens that exist. Incredibly vibrant colors with artist information written in pencil. Professionally framed under art-plexi in a beautiful bleached maple frame.
