  • Georg Vihos Monseigneur Monet Signed 3-Dimensional Mixed Media on Paper 2004
    Located in Keego Harbor, MI
An intriguing mixed-media drawing and collage on paper titled "Monseigneur Monet" by Greek-American artist Georg Vihos. Hand signed in pencil on the bottom right with a 2004 date. Titled on the bottom left. A unique composition with 3-Dimensional floating cloud over an image of the famous artist Monet. From a private collection. Dimensions: 41"w x 1.5"d x 33"h (framed). In very good condition. Georg Vihos (1937-2013) is a post-Modern artist known for his monumental abstract expressionism style often with collage elements. He began his artistic career with the prestigious U.S. Fulbright–Hays fellowship study in Florence, Italy (1969-1970). Vihos exhibited in countless galleries and museums across the United States and abroad, including the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Art Institute of Chicago. The artist was a contemporary with the world-famous modern architect Irving Tobocman. The iconic Tobocman style homes built in the 1970s-1990s were often adorned with a Vihos painting. Vihos artworks placed within timeless modern designed spaces are the perfect synergy. Today, his works can be found in several public institutions and private collections. Per the artist, "As a post-Modern artist, I am fascinated with the relationship of Time: the past, present, and future. I discover forms and images from different art historical sources and transpose the subjects directly into my work, celebrating an artistic bridge. The collage elements serve me in the tradition of Duchamp's Readymades, arriving at a different level of authenticity in my work. When I pluck human figures from art postcards and set them into a new context of line, shape, and color, I give a new meaning to a new whole. Each college defines its own integrity. I am taking from and giving back to Art the very things I savor. Artists play with personal gifts in themselves. When we create, sometimes a meeting with unnatural circumstances may turn out. In these heightened moments, images appear, develop, and reappear. Usually it feels like a physical energy. The Muse and the Artist fill each other's active imaginations with images. One needs the other like earth needs air. When called upon, this creative spirit energy will always come ready to collaborate in a creation. I sometimes feel another being near me...

  • Manuel Nunez Eternal Separation Gold Leaf Mixed Media Giclee on Paper
    Located in Dayton, OH
"Elaborately framed gilded / gold leaf giclee print of “Eternal Separation” by Manuel Nunez in 2000, pencil signed and numbered 15/75. The art shows a female figure in a long white gown with a golden halo behind her head, standing in a colonnade, under an arch of flowering branches, framed on either side with panels of gold leaf. “Manuel Nunez Spanish Artist: b. 1956. ""My images are of strong women,"" Nunez says. ""Beautiful, but not exploited. Women who are sensual and virtuous; wrestling with the underlying conflict of what life is versus what it should be."" Nunez describes the symbolism in his work in the words of a biblical scholar. Not firebrand, but a gentle imparting of the tenets of his belief. Almost every stroke is alive with the artist's own faith and the objects which serve to keep that spirit always in his sight. Manuel Nunez was born in 1956, into a family versed in the arts and Latino culture. His father, Manuel Nunez Sr., was a well known singer and song writer who recorded nine Spanish-language albums in the 1950's. ""I listen to his music all of the time, but it's only now that I really appreciate his music and what he was doing with it."" It could be said that in this atmosphere, the spirituality which shaped his creativity was upon the artist from his first breath. As he grew, it was then only a short leap of logic to jump from an exploration of his creative spirit to his human spirituality. It was a larger leap to then explore his way back from his religious roots to his art. Yet in that very transcendence is the brilliance in which the art of Nuñez resides. The use of his trademark - a hand-applied 23-karat gold leaf - is indicative of the spiritual roots of the artist and its interpolation into his work. ""The gold itself is a dichotomy,"" he explains. ""Gold can, at the same time, symbolize decadence or indulgence and the righteous purity shown in Russian icon art...
