View AllHighwayman Painting by George Buckner
By George Buckner
Located in Asheville, NC
This vivid Florida waterscape is the work of Highwayman George Buckner (1943-2002). It features an inflamed pink sky above which is reflected in the Indian river. A flock of egrets, a lone royal palm tree, a vivid stand of mangroves, and a cypress tree are draped in Spanish moss. The painting is acrylic on Masonite, and is set in the original homemade frame constructed of crown molding.
Mr. Buckner grew up in Gifford, Florida. He was the eldest son of 12 children. He left school in the sixth grade when his father died and he went to work. He was a tall and handsome man. Aside from being a gifted painter, he was a self taught and accomplished musician. He played the guitar, piano, and saxophone. Bucker became a "Highwayman" after meeting the group's founder Harold Newton...
