About the Item
A modern Fauvist lithograph in colors on paper titled “Ladies in a Row” by Walasse Ting. Hand signed in pencil on the lower left with an A.P. annotation. Published in 1980. This exuberant print features a group of stylized female figures dressed in flowing, brightly colored garments, each holding parrots and flowers, rendered in Ting's signature palette of neon pinks, blues, greens, and yellows. The composition blends Eastern motifs with Western pop sensibilities, celebrating femininity and nature with joyful energy. This artwork exemplifies Ting’s iconic visual language and his influence on post-war contemporary art.

Walasse Ting (1929-2010) was a Chinese-American visual artist and poet. His colorful paintings have attracted critical admiration and a popular following. Common subjects include nude women and cats, birds and other animals. He associated with artists such as Karel Appel, Asger Jorn, and Pierre Alechinsky, members of the avant-garde group CoBrA. Ting started his career as an artist in Paris in the 1950s, where he became friends with artists such as Sam Francis and Pierre Alechinsky. His early works were influenced by the CoBrA group, a European art movement known for its use of expressive, childlike imagery. In the 1960s, Ting moved to New York City and became associated with the Pop Art movement. Today his works are stored in many world-class art galleries.
