About the Item
Pair of mulberry transfer tea plates, decorated with a view of the Philadelphia Water Works and the Race Bridge. The transfers are drawn from William Russell Birch's, "The City of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania North America", and "The Water Works, in Centre Square Philadelphia." The plates were manufactured by Job & John Jackson, Burslem, Staffordshire, England (active 1831-35). Each view is identified on the reverse. Mounted and framed in a hinged box molding.
Marked in the glaze on the underside: "The Water Works, Philadelphia. Jacksons, Warranted" and "The Race Bridge, Philadelphia. Jacksons, Warranted"
