18th Century French Aubusson Rustic Tapestry Panel

About the Item

A French Aubusson Pastoral tapestry panel from the 18th century, featuring several women in the foreground, and many more in the background, tending to their daily chores while seated in the lush grassy field of an expansive estate, with various flowers and trees strewn around them. After an original painting by the French painter Jean-Antoine Watteau (1684-1721), 'Les Champs Elysées', currently on display at the Wallace collection in London. Watteau is credited with inventing the genre of 'Fêtes Galantes', scenes of bucolic and idyllic charm, suffered with a theatrical air. This tapestry is a perfect illustration of the genre. Enclosed by a narrow monochromatic border. Wool with silk inlay. Measures: 8’0” H x 5’6” W Hanging: The tapestry comes ready for hanging, with linen backing and a strip of hook and loop tape at the top end, which can be connected to the opposite side of the supplied hook and loop tape, which could be tacked to your wall. For those who prefer the use of a tapestry rod, we can add the appropriate size loops to accommodate your needs.
