American appliqué quilt square by Rachel G Gilpin, 1845

About the Item

Cotton quilt square with floral appliques cut from a printed chintz and redesigned as a wreath with floral sprigs in the corners. Signed & dated in ink in the center of the wreath: "Rachel G. Gilpin, Baltimore 1845." The work has been archival mat with a beveled linen surround and fitted in a UV filtering plexiglass box frame. American, Baltimore, 1845.
