About the Item

A Museum Quality piece, this is an exquisite example of a late 17th/ early 18th Century Brussels Baroque Mythological Tapestry. It is a complete piece with its original border, measures 12.10 (height) x 14 (width) ft and is in excellent condition with vibrant colors. Depicting Mars offering his plumed helmet to Venus who holds her torch and floats aloft a cloud with Vulcan working in his forge to the left, all amid a wooded landscape surrounding a central clearing revealing classical architectural ruins amid rolling hills, within a floral and foliate strapwork border with parrots and tasseled lambrequins, the top border centering a ribbon-drapped shell cartouche surrounded by emblems of love and hunting, the lower boarder with central hunting trophy and the sides centered by love trophies.
