"Artemis and the Hunters", Fabulous Art Deco Tapestry with Nudes, Sweden
About the Item
Richly hued and dramatically staged, this Art Deco tapestry by Carl Edvin Svensson depicts a reclining nude Artemis in the lower left corner, reigning over a world of nude hunters and their prey. The figures are depicted in rich tones of canary, burnt sienna and brick red, and two exotic birds are given plumage in blue, ivory and brown. The artist is known for his Art Deco tapestries with stylized figures and animals. The tapestry is finely woven in wool, and the artist included his monogram in the lower righthand corner.
