An Aubusson Tapestry
About the Item
This stunning tapestry, depicting a young couple and their dog in a sumptuous woodland, is rich with detail and vibrant colour. Manufactured at Aubusson, in the upper valley of the Creuse in central France, it dates to around the early 18th century.
In 2009, Aubusson was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, and the town is home to the museum of the Cité internationale de la tapisserie, demonstrating its great and ongoing importance to the tapestry industry in France.
