Boos Wool Tapestry, Contemporary Wall Hanging, Naturally Dyed and Handwoven
About the Item
This wall hanging is a one of a kind heirloom piece. Taking inspiration from brutalism, mid-century abstraction, and Joseph Albers studies on the interaction of color.
The entire process of creating this wall hanging was done in the artist's Brooklyn studio. Each work produced by the artist is a bespoke heirloom piece. The tapestry is woven with traditional Kilim techniques, using interlocking yarn to add strength and stability, but also add texture and structure to the lines. As a handmade work, the tapestry exhibits variations and imperfections, representing the true nature of the materials and techniques.
Note: The color tones and hues will vary depending on whether your space is lit with fluorescent, incandescent or natural light. These photos were taken in bright, studio lighting and try to emulate what the rug will look like in bright indirect sunlight.
Measures: Approximate 31" x 40" with a 3.5"" cotton fringe at the bottom and a cotton hem at the top which can fit a rod with a less than 0.5" diameter. (rod not included)

Andrew Boos
Andrew Boos is an artist and bespoke rug designer based in Brooklyn, NY. His work is inspired by the physics of light and space, exploring those interactions through the use of line, shape and color. He hand dyes his yarn to achieve subtle variations in tone. This allows for a much freer use of color, more akin to paintings than traditional textiles.
The designs are composed on the loom and handwoven by the artist using traditional kilim and tapestry techniques. Starting from a central theme involving the interaction of shape and color, elements are added or subtracted as the piece progresses, allowing for spontaneity and freedom throughout the weaving process. Each piece is one of a kind.
