Wall tapestry made after a deign by Kaare Lindelof Jensen, Høsterkøb: 'Pyramus and Thisbe',
The legend of the lovers Pyramus and Thisbe has been cross-stitched with dark red wool on a linen background.
Wrought iron hanger included.
Dimensions: 82x124 without fringes, 94x160cm including hanger a8890nd fringes
In excellent condition.
The Love Story of Pyramus and Thisbe is an older story than "Romeo and Juliet".
Pyramus and Thisbe lived in Babylonia and from the time they were young, were neighbors. They played together daily as children and fell in love as they grew older. Pyramus and Thisbe were in love but forbidden by their parents to be together, so they planned to run away secretly. At their meeting place in a cave, Thisbe arrived first and fled in fear from a lioness, leaving behind her bloodied cloak. When Pyramus discovered the cloak, he mistakenly believed Thisbe was dead and killed himself; upon returning, Thisbe found Pyramus dying and also took her own life, so that they could be together in death. The tree that witnessed their love now bears fruit in their honor.
