Artist: Elie Grekoff Era: 20th century Style: 50s-60s Design Condition: Perfect condition Material: Wool Width: 183 cm Height: 115 cm Depth: 0.5 cm Élie Grekoff was a French painter and master tapestry designer of Russian origin, born on October 11, 1914 in Saratov, Russia, and died on July 16, 1985 in Saumur, France. Here are some key points about his life and career: Origins and beginnings: From a family of Russian military officers, he emigrated to France in 1928. He worked in various trades before turning to art. He studied at Fernand Léger's Academy, who encouraged him and entrusted him with projects. Artistic career: He created frescoes, paintings, tapestries and illustrations. He collaborated with publishers to illustrate books, including luxury editions. He is recognized for his tapestries, creating more than 300 cartoons. His style is recognizable by bright colors and stylized shapes. He worked for many tapestry workshops, such as the Pinton Frères workshops in Aubusson. Main achievements: Fresco for the Bois pavilion at the 1937 Universal Exhibition in Paris. Illustrations for works by Charles Baudelaire and Fyodor Dostoevsky. Numerous tapestries with varied motifs, often inspired by nature. Élie Grekoff left behind a rich and diverse body of work, testifying to his talent and creativity.
