About the Item

Polish fiber artist Krystyna Wojtyna-Drouet (b.1926) studied painting and weaving at the School of Arts in Krakow during WWll and continued her studies postwar at the Academy of FIne Arts in Warsow. She is known internationally for her innovative approach to one of the oldest creative disciplines known to humankind, exhibiting in almost 300 shows in Poland, France, Norway, Denmark, Russia, Canada, the United States, Cuba, Argentina, Uruguay and Egypt. Foregoing the paper cartoon traditionally used to plot the design of a pictorial weaving, Wojtyna-Drouet creates freehand as the piece on which she is working progresses. This monumental tapestry titled 'Fruit' is a tour de force display of her formidable skills as a weaver, dyer and designer.
