Gemmanick (born Gemma Annick Edmonde Harbulot on March 23, 1937 in Nouméa) is a New Caledonian symbolist painter of Irish origin. Her artist name is the contraction of her two first names.
Born into two large Caledonian families who settled in the territory at the end of the 19th century, the Harbulots and the Creugnets, Gemmanick grew up between her native land of New Caledonia and the New Hebrides. She began painting at the age of twelve, while still in boarding school. Her early works are mainly marked by the realism of the landscapes of the lagoons and the New Caledonian nickel mines, where she carried out mineral analyses alongside her parents (her father, Edmond Harbulot, was a director of the mining companies of the Édouard Pentecost group) and then her husband, a geologist. The year 1963 marked a turning point in Gemmanick's work. Deeply affected by the death of her younger brother Yves, she took refuge in painting and adopted a style far removed from the realism of her youth, which she would call Nuances. The fifty or so oil paintings she produced allowed her to be exhibited in Noumea for the first time in 1965 at the Cintra Club, then in 1969 at the city's Cultural Centre, where she sold around a hundred paintings in less than fifteen days.

Located in New York, NY
The Aubusson tapestry manufacture of the 17th and 18th centuries managed to compete with the royal manufacture of Gobelins tapestry and the privileged position of Beauvais tapestry. Typically, Aubusson tapestries depended on engravings as a design source or the full-scale cartoons from which the low-warp tapestry-weavers worked. As with Flemish and Parisian tapestries...
