About the Item

Kennedy Bahia (1929-2005) Patrick Maderos Kennedy took the professional pseudonym of Kennedy Bahia as his artwork related to the flora and fauna area of the Amazonian jungle of Bahia. He began his career as a geologist seeking gold and rare minerals in the Amazon region. Later, he turned to painting and colorful tapestries depicting the beauty and people of the region. In the 1960s and 70s, he became celebrated as Brazil’s preeminent tapestry artist working in wool needlepoint. His tapestry work boasts colorful bold compositions featuring birds, plants, and butterflies. Bahia was born in Chile but lived his life in Brazil and is often considered a Brazilian Modernist.
