Tapestry "tropical village" by Alfredo Gauro Ambrosi 220 x 120
About the Item
This tapestry, depicting a tropical village, is part of a group of decorative art pieces (including some large tapestries) created during his stay in Brazil from 1923 to 1925.
Alfredo Gauro Ambrosi (Rome, 1901 - Verona, 1945) was highly regarded as a figurative painter before his Futurist period. The archives of his heirs in Verona contain lists of works he created as early as 1915, as well as many records of his stay in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he spent three years from 1923 to 1925. He was an esteemed portrait artist and even painted a portrait of H.E. Arthur Bernardes, who was the President of Brazil in 1924. However, in Brazil, he also engaged in applied art, creating various wool tapestries that captured the villages he encountered during his travels in the jungle and the tropical forest.
