About the Item
Duffy London expands upon its iconic Abyss collection with the new Abyss Wall Tile, a unique interchangeable design that invites the user to create and then curate their own personalised Abyss within a space.
Realised using the latest 3d printing technologies and eco-friendly materials, the 2023 Abyss Wall Tile is a design first for Duffy London, and an exciting new application for the original Abyss design.
The concept for the tiles came from the idea of deconstructing an Abyss into small sections that could be re-arranged to create an entirely new bespoke pattern.
The three individual tiles are based on Truchet Tiling, a mathematical tiling system, and uniquely designed so that no matter how they are combined, they can be configured to create an entirely new, bespoke flowing pattern, that can be scaled up or down to fit different spaces and environments.

Each of the 3 unique tiles can be rotated 3 different ways and be placed back in seamlessly.
First designed in 2012, the Abyss is an exploration of depth and our perception to it. Layers of glass and wood combine in a vivid display of turquoise colours, conjuring up ideas of a great oceanic topography, and transforming the flowing design into an expressive object.
In 2019, a limited edition of the original Abyss Table was acquired by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at The Louvre in Paris to become part of the permanent French National collection.
Like all Duffy London pieces, the Abyss Wall Tiles are 3D printed and then handcrafted in the Duffy London studio in East London bespoke to order. A variety of final finishing options is offered including brushed stainless steel or mirror-polished gold.

Everything we do is handmade to order and bespoke by skilled craftspeople here in the UK. We only use wood from sustainably managed forests and other eco-friendly building materials and mediums.
