Austrian Art Deco Pottery Face Wall Mask in Manner of Wiener Werkstätte

About the Item

A stylish and unusual Austrian/Czech attributed Art Deco pottery face wall mask of a lady attributed to Walter Bosse in the manner of Wiener Werkstätte dating from around 1930. The mask made in a red terracotta clay portrays a lady wearing a hat formed with a repeated rolled edge with locks of hair hanging down her forehead. The wall mask is naturalistically painted with loosely painted features in typical Walter Bosse style with molded features the recessed eyes painted in black and blue below black painted eyebrows with a formed nose and lips, the latter painted on orange with a darkened outline. The hair is painted black and the this is overpainted against naturalistic skin tones. The hat and shaped neck line are decorated in turquoise glazes. The mask has a molded hanging loop to the back with a brushed finish. The mask is not marked. Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market. In good condition with light wear and some minor age rubbing with a small surface scratch to the neck.
