"The Red Necklace" Contemporary Installation of Ceramic Plates and Oil on Canvas

About the Item

“The Red Necklace” includes two 19th C. Blue & White plates (one is British and one is French) and a big late 19th C. hand painted Chinese plate. The painting features a still life with a red necklace on a light blue plate, with a yellow ceramic pitcher and a vase of pink Primula Japonica. This artwork belongs to our "Altered Perspectives" wall art series, in which the ‘perspective’ of the painting is ‘altered’ by combining it with the subject of the decoration of the plates, the sum of the whole being more interesting than the individual parts. Each "Altered Perspectives" composition is the result of finding the perfect selection of plates (based on their subject) and have them dialogue with a painting. We create the layout that can at best highlight the details in the painting and reference the decoration on each plate. Only once we are satisfied with the composition we start the process of creating the artwork. Each plate has a professional hook at the back, and each plate is numbered at the back. Artwork is signed and dated at the back. A diagram showing the placing of each plate on the wall is included in the box.

Additions or alterations made to the original: Artwork consists of vintage or antique ceramics combined with a vintage oil painting on canvas. Each plate might present small imperfections due to its age and use, and the canvas might present holes and missing paint. Wear consistent with age and use. The section of canvas on each plate has been carefully applied to the concave surface of the plate, resulting in small tears in the canvas. We welcome and embrace these imperfections as they contribute to the look of the artwork with their testimony.
