Antique Paste Crescent Brooch, Star, Floral, 900 Silver

About the Item

One of the prettiest antique paste crescent brooches I have seen! This has so much going for it, but only does it have the Cresent moon but to the top of this there is a small paste star and within the Cresent a pretty floral display. Crescent moons were a popular motif in Victorian jewellery, they are attributed to a number of meanings from feminine strength to changes or new beginnings / chapters, stars usually represent guidance and the floral spray further enhances these messages with feminine beauty. This brooch can be worn in many ways and is a stunning, versatile piece, it would look great worn on a lapel or even affixed across your favourite antique chain for a celestial twist. It has an old C type clasp and base metal pin fastener. Marks and era: Art Nouveau era, c1900s, marked 900 for 900 silver, Continental make. Approx measurements: 1.05" length 1" width Weighs approx 5.85 grams Condition: Good used condition overall, signs of use and wear commensurate with age, pin is base metal, some paste have some discoloration Any questions or queries please contact us. This magnificent antique Victorian era crescent moon and Star brooch is really something special. Finely crafted in the Etruscan revival manner in rich 15ct gold with cannetille detailing and beading around the border. It features a crescent moon to the centre with a diamond and sapphire set star nestling into the moon. Stars have a rich history in Georgian and Victorian jewellery and they have continued in popularity since, the Victorians wore them as a symbol of guidance, protection and good luck. Crescent moons were a popular motif in Victorian jewellery, they are attributed to a number of meanings from feminine strength to changes or new beginnings / chapters. It is thought that a moon and Star together symbolises love and loving one to the moon and back so this piece is likely to have romantic connotations and was probably gifted as a love token. This brooch can be worn in many ways and is a stunning, versatile piece, it would look great worn on a lapel or even affixed across your favourite gold chain for a celestial twist.
