About the Item

This is a wonderful antique Victorian - Belle Epoque Lizard, Salamander, Chameleon Brooch Pin set throughout with Rose Cut Diamonds in a gorgeous three dimensional design in Silver atop 14 Karat White Gold. This is one of the most beautiful antique Victorian jeweled animal pins we have seen. The fabulous lizard has a fully modeled three dimensional design with an open mouth and a protruding tongue. I just love this! The delightful lizard is set throughout with Rose Cut Diamonds of great beauty. The extraordinary jewels are all set "a jour" - open backed so that the light is allowed to filter through the gems and make them sparkle with the wonderful quality we love in the antique diamonds. This whimsical lizard slithers delightfully across the body and creates a conversation piece to be passed on for generations. Animal inspired Victorian jewels are all the rage today. And here we have the little lizard, chameleon or salamander with the exquisite diamonds and beautiful nature inspired design - how rare! The Victorians were absolutely enamored with nature and lizards and snakes and created magnificent jewels of the fascinating creatures. These antique diamond set animal gems are among the most highly desired and collected today. The lizard is 2 3/8 inches (6 cm) long and is 3/4 inch (20mm) wide. The lizard is silver atop 14 Karat Gold as was typical of the period. The pin clasp is hallmarked 14K. The lizard weighs 9.3 grams.
