About the Item

A fine and impressive 18 karat yellow gold 'Tyneside Scottish Brigade' regimental brooch made by Thomas L Mott; part of our diverse antique jewelry and estate jewelry collections This antique World War I (WWI) regimental brooch has been crafted in 18k yellow gold. The brooch is crafted in the form of the Tyneside Scottish* regimental cap badge. This authentic sweetheart brooch depicts the St Andrew's Cross flanked by thistle sprays and overlaid with the text 'Tyneside Scottish', a turret surmounted by the Scottish lion rampant holding in its paws a flagstaff with a swallow-tailed flag which displays a small St Andrew's Cross. This fine sweetheart brooch secures with a hinged pin and C clasp to the reverse. The reverse of the brooch is hallmarked the 18k gold fineness mark (18ct) and the maker's mark for Thomas L Mott (TLM)** NOTES: * In 1914 the original 102nd (Tyneside Scottish) Brigade was formed by Lord Kitchener. By 1918, due to heavy loss of life, the Tyneside Scottish Brigade ceased to exist, and the amalgamation of several depleted Brigades became known solely as 102nd Brigade. As of 2004, the Tyneside Scottish title is used by the 204 (Tyneside Scottish) Battery, 101 (Northumbrian) Regiment, Royal Artillery (Volunteers). ** Thomas L Mott was the most prolific producer of butterfly wing jewelry in the 1920s and 1930s. His company is listed as exhibiting in the British Industries Fair in 1929 and 1947 as "Manufacturers of Butterfly Wing Specialities - Brooches, Compacts, Rings, Black Opaline Jewelry, Necklets, Bracelets, Clip Ear Rings." Located in Stamford, CT
