Egyptian Revival Lapis Lazuli Pharoah King Tut Enamel Brooch Pin Art Deco Silver

About the Item

This is a rare Art Deco Egyptian Revival masterpiece. The stunning brooch is centered by a magnificent hand carved Lapis Lazuli head of a Pharoah, or King Tut. The Lapis face reflects the work of a master artisan. The Pharoah is flanked on either side by a beautifully enameled pair of blue and white wings. The brooch pin is hallmarked 800 Silver with a maker's mark of MF and a Tree motif. The brooch dates to the Art Deco period, circa 1890-1920. It has its early C-clasp. The brooch could be easily converted to a pendant necklace if desired. For centuries, Ancient Egypt has held the fascination of the public and continues to inspire artists and designers alike. With the discoveries of Egyptian tombs, and the treasures within, in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the exotically opulent lives of the Pharaohs were beyond anyone’s imagination. Of all the precious objects unearthed in the tombs, the lavish jewels were perhaps the most fascinating for their extravagance and never-before-seen symbolism. The Roaring Twenties and the period’s Art Deco jewelry embraced the vivid contrasting colors, motifs, and symbols more daringly than ever before. Whether the jewels were complete, faithful reproductions or real artifacts preciously decorated in similar style, the Egyptian Revival jewelry during the Art Deco era is the most lavish and magnificent. The brooch is 50mm (2 inches) wide and is 3/4 inches (19mm) tall. The brooch is hallmarked on the back with a maker's mark of MF, a Tree, and 800 for 800 Silver. The brooch weighs 7.3 grams.

Egyptian Revival Plique A Jour Enamel Winged Scarab Insect Brooch Pin Art Deco
Located in New York, NY
A rare Art Deco Egyptian Revival masterpiece of a Winged Scarab Insect Brooch done in Plique a Jour Enamel over Silver. The Museum Quality brooch depicts a winged Scarab beetle, one of the signature motifs of the Egyptian Revival movement. The brooch is done with extraordinary Purple and Green iridescent Plique a Jour Enamel. Plique Enamel requires the skills of a master artisan to create. When finished, the Plique enamel creates a see through enamel which allows light to shine through, reminiscent of a stained glass window. This brooch is a masterpiece of the technique and one of the most beautiful pieces we have seen. The brooch pin is Silver with a gold wash. It dates to the Art Nouveau to Art Deco period, circa 1880-1920. It has its early C-clasp. The brooch could be easily converted to a pendant necklace if desired. Plique-à-jour (French for "letting in daylight") is a vitreous enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. It is in effect a miniature version of stained-glass and is considered very challenging technically: high time...
