French Nineteenth Century Carved Gold Eagle Brooch

About the Item

A French nineteenth century carved gold eagle brooch, the eagle magnificently carved in yellow gold with outstretched wings carrying an pearl in its beak with rat-tail and pin fitting to reverse, stamped with the French eagle head export mark, circa 1880measuring approximately 6cm x 2.5cm, gross weight 13.5 grams. A gorgeous gold eagle brooch. This brooch features wonderfully detailed carved wings and facial details, with the eagle depicted holding a single pearl in its mouth and its wings outstretched. The eagle is a symbol of power and strength, and was a symbol used by Napoleon atop the flag of France during the Napoleonic Wars. This handsome brooch comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and would look perfect adorning the lapel of a jacket. This antique brooch is in excellent condition for its age.
