Georgian Halley's Comet Rose Cut Diamond Brooch

About the Item

Here we have a charming little Halley's Comet brooch taken from the Georgian period. Crafted from a blend of old gold and silver, it showcases a striking design with a white rose cut diamond as the centrepiece. This principal stone is then surrounded by a halo of similarly cut diamonds before a lone matching stone can be found at the tail end. The Georgians and Victorians were fond of symbolism in their jewellery and crafted it as such to commemorate important life experiences such as birth, love, betrothal and mourning or death. Events such as Halley's Comet sightings which occur about every 75 years served as inspiration for such jewellery forms. Georgian jewellers were the first ro create Halley's Comet brooches which resembled the shape of the comet as it approach the sun followed by a long streak or tail.
