Late 19th Century French Mandolin Brooch

About the Item

A late 19th century mandolin brooch, realistically formed and encrusted with rose-cut diamonds and multi-colour enamel, on a black patinated background within yellow gold mount, bearing French hallmark and makers-mark, measuring approximately 7 x 1.5cm long, circa 1880, gross weight 10.7 grams. This exquisite late nineteenth-century brooch comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. This brooch is in the shape of a mandolin which is incredibly detailed: everything from the delicate gold strings to the tuning keys has been meticulously rendered. The body of the mandolin is set with lively rose cut diamonds and bright colourful enamel. This is a marvellous, eye-catching piece, charmingly detailed and a true example of late nineteenth century craftsmanship. Should you choose to make this purchase we will delighted to send it to you in a Bentley & Skinner handmade leather case packed in a gift-wrapped Bentley & Skinner black and gold presentation box. Shortly afterwards we will send you on a valuation for insurance purposes for your reference and safekeeping.
