Rare Victorian Mining Brooches

About the Item

Extraordinary novelty brooches from the mid 19th Century. When new mines were opened to the public in the 19th Century, souvenirs were often sold to commemorate these visits. These rare artifacts of these visits were sold as expensive souvenirs and are set in gold with the various gems and ores mined at those locations. The gold and silver ore brooch has a double glass vial with gold terminals is likely American in origin. The opal chips floating in liquid glass vial is also capped in gold terminals.
