About the Item
Slugs in Love??? Well yes, the names Robert had to come up with for all his forms were often quirky and odd, and this brooch is from the Slug family of shapes, a unique vocabulary that reflects the creative mind of the designer. the "Slug" is a elongated oval raised form, looking a bit like a slug, or a snail without the shell. Using his iconic construction technique with sheet and wire, with defined edges and swollen raised surfaces, Robert Lee Morris continued to maintain a signature look in his metal work by inventing his own personal metal fabrication technique. This brooch is quite dramatic and long, at over 4.5" long, it makes a strong bold statement on a jacket or coat. The two slug forms are nestled together in what could be seen as a caress or a bonding, thus the name Slugs in Love. Sterling silver and in the clean pure design tradition of no surface decoration, just simple high polished form. The family of Slugs was born around 1988 along with a huge family of signature RLM brooches Robert made for Donna Karan.
