Turtle Tortoise Brooch Pin Ruby Pink Rhodochrosite 14 Karat Gold Mary Lou Daves

About the Item

This is a wonderful antique Turtle or Tortoise Clip Brooch Pin with Ruby eyes and a fabulous heart shape Pink Rhodochrosite body in 14 Karat Yellow Gold in a gorgeous three dimensional design from the estate of Hollywood Legend Mary Lou Daves. Ms. Daves' jewelry exemplified her exquisite taste. Her jewels were unique, dramatic and elegant. This is one of the most beautiful antique jeweled animal pins we have seen. The fabulous turtle has a fully modeled three dimensional design with gorgeous Ruby eyes, wonderful engraved patterns throughout its head and legs, and the exquisite pink banded Rhodochrosite heart shaped body. I just love this! This whimsical turtle or tortoise walks delightfully across the body and creates a conversation piece to be passed on for generations. Animal inspired jewels are all the rage today. These antique gem set animal jewels are among the most highly desired and collected today. Provenance: The turtle is from the Bel Air estate of Delmer and Mary Lou Daves where a who's who of Hollywood legends (Cole Porter entertained guests at the piano) were entertained. Their love story began on the set of the 1938 film, "Professor Beware." As a successful contract writer for Warner Bros., Delmer Daves wrote the screenplay and wanted to visit the set to see how things were going. 19-year-old, Mary Lawrence was cast as the Bride. He was instantly smitten. "So you're playing the bride? I wish you would marry me," he quipped. "I shall answer you with the same spirit you asked me. Of course I will be yours forever." The two were married for 39 years, had three children and a lifetime of adventures. His career spanned 40 years during which he wrote and/or directed 80 movies including: Love Affair (1939), Destination Tokyo (1943) , Hollywood Canteen (1944), Dark Passage (1947), Broken Arrow (1950), Birds of Paradise (1951), The Last Wagon (1956), An Affair to Remember (1957), 3:10 to Yuma (1957), Cowboy (1958), A Summer Place (1959), The Hanging Tree (1959) He was a genius, renaissance man, student and tinkerer. She had an enduring acting career in film and television and became an author in her later years rallying her famous friends to share their thoughts on famous art works in, "Lovers: 100 Works of Art Celebrating Romantic Love..." She was a lover of art, family, beauty, traveling, entertaining, fashion and many causes. The turtle is 1 1/4 inches (31mm) long and is 7/8 inch (23mm) wide. It is 8mm deep. The rhodochrosite gem may be removed if desired as it has a secure latch mechanism to exchange the stone for another if desired. The turtle is 14 Karat Yellow Gold.
