A Victorian Amethyst and Black Enamel Snake Stick-pin

About the Item

A Victorian amethyst and black enamel snake stick pin, the cabochon-cut amethyst measuring 9.6 x 8mm, rubover-set in yellow gold surrounded by a yellow gold snake, the body with black enamel decorations and the head with red enamel eyes, all mounted in yellow gold, circa 1880, the jewelled part measuring 2.3 x 1.3 cm, the pin measuring 6mm long, gross weight 4 grams. This antique pin is in very good condition for its age. Unmarked, tested as 15ct gold, with 9ct gold pin. A striking Victorian amethyst and black enamel snake stick pin. Amethyst has associations in many religions and cultures. Leonardo da Vinci was supposed to have said that the stone helps quicken intelligence and gets rid of evil thoughts. The black enamel strikingly contrasts with the rich purple of the amethyst making it stand out. This stick pin coming from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. Amethyst is the birthstone for February and would make the perfect gift for someone with a birthday in that month. Should you choose to make this purchase we would be delighted to send it to you in a Bentley & Skinner handmade leather case packed in a gift-wrapped Bentley & Skinner black and gold presentation box. Shortly afterwards we will send you on a valuation for insurance purposes for your reference and safekeeping.
