About the Item

A pair of turn-of-the century reverse intaglio crystal cufflinks, depicting the portrait head of two various breeds of a cat and dog, each circular link measuring approximately 11mm in diameter, yellow gold rub-over set to chain link connections, bearing Austro-Hungarian marks for 14 carat gold, stamped with makers mark 'KM', circa 1900, each link measuring approximately 1.1cm in diameter, gross weight 9.4 grams. This pair of cufflinks are in very good condition, small amount of abrasion to crystals consistent with age and use. Tested as 14ct gold This charming pair of cufflinks come from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. The technique of reverse intaglio dates to 1860 and is the process in which an intaglio is carved into the flat back of the rock crystal and then painted. This allows the image to appear three-dimensional, and it was particularly popular in nineteenth-century jewellery to depict animals. These cufflinks feature two dogs and two cats, delightfully rendered, each with a colourful collar or neck bow. Should you choose to make this purchase we will delighted to send it to you in a Bentley & Skinner handmade leather case packed in a gift-wrapped Bentley & Skinner black and gold presentation box. Shortly afterwards we will send you on a valuation for insurance purposes for your reference and safekeeping.
