Castellani Ancient Roman Silver Denarius Coin 18kt Gold Earrings
About the Item
Two Ancient Roman Silver Denarius coins adorn this pair of earrings. The earrings sit flat on the ear. The Apollo earring settings are in Castellani® Ancient Terra-Cotta Red™ 18kt gold. Our signature tong prongs are used in this setting. Castellani in the 1800’s used this setting and style for Ancient coins, intaglios and cameos. Omega clip back and posts have been attached. The measurements, Frames: 22mm Diameter 2mm Depth (7/8” Diameter 1/8” Depth. The Castellani and CC Logo Plates are affixed to the back of both earrings. The total weight is 15.3 grams.
Castellani’s Jewellery from the 19th Century is in museums:
British Museum; Victoria & Albert Museum; Metropolitan Museum of Art; The Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt Museum to name a few); exhibitions as well as in private collections.
Fortunato Pio Castellani can be called the "Father of Archeological Revival Jewellery". In the mid 1800's in Rome, Castellani had the entree to visit the Ancient Etruscan ruins. He was able to study these Ancient designs as well as other Ancient Mediterranean civilizations’ jewellery and started to create and re-design under his brand.

This is a beautiful pair of clips-on earrings with genuine ancient Romans coins. The earrings were crafted in Italy in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished finish. They were made up in a round shape and professionally mounted with two genuine ancient Romans coins. They are fitted at the reverse with gold posts for pierced ears and a pair of comfortable hinged French omega backs for fastening clips. The coins mounted in this pair are beautiful authentic ancient Roman coins struck during the Roman Imperial period between 27 BC and 476 AD.

The Emperor Constantine
He was born as Flavius Valerius Constantinus in 27 February c. 272 also known as Constantine the Great, was the Roman emperor from AD 306 to 337, the first one to convert to Christianity. Born in Naissus, Dacia Mediterranea, now Serbia. He was the son of Flavius Constantius, a Roman army officer of Illyrian origin who had been one of the four rulers of the Tetrarchy. His mother, Helena, was a Greek Christian of low birth. Later canonized as a saint, she is traditionally attributed with the conversion of her son. Constantine served with distinction under the Roman emperors Diocletian and Galerius. He began his career by campaigning in the eastern provinces (against the Persians) before being recalled in the west (in AD 305) to fight alongside his father in Britain.
