About the Item
Introducing our modern interpretation of the traditional Chand Bali earrings—the 22K Gold Handmade Sun-Moon Dangle Earrings by Agaro. These earrings pay homage to the timeless charm of Chand Balis while infusing a contemporary twist. Chand Balis hold deep cultural and historical significance, particularly in the Indian subcontinent. It translates to "moon earrings" in Hindi and have been a cherished part of Indian heritage for centuries, adorning the ears of queens, princesses, and women of nobility. Symbolically, Chand Balis represent femininity, grace, and beauty.
All Agaro jewelry is entirely hand engraved and enameled in meenakari, or hot fired glass enamel using an ancient 17th century jewelry making art that was first used in the ateliers of the Mughal Court. The jewelry that was produced in these Mughal courts was always made using gold at its very purest (22K and higher), delicately wrought and brilliantly fused with magnificent meenakari, or enameling. It was said even Paris could not paint gold to the standard produced within these Mughal ateliers.
Today, Agaro jewelry is made using these same traditions and techniques passed down through generations. The Agaro artisans, many of whom can trace their families back to the Mughal ateliers, have created these beautiful earrings with detailed enameling on hand wrought 22K gold. The two stunningly-enameled faces of these reversible earrings represent the sun and moon; each displayed in turn, symbolising lucidly the eternal cycle of life. On one side, vibrant hues of sky blue enamel take center stage, creating a celestial backdrop for blue sapphires, their deep blue hues glistening with an ethereal charm. On the other side, a rich midnight blue enamel sets the stage for a radiant display of rose-cut diamonds. This symphony of colors and gemstones embodies the duality of light and darkness, showcasing the eternal interplay between the sun and moon.
Handmade in 22K gold, 1.12 carats rose cut diamonds & 4.5 carats blue sapphires set in 24K gold, and vitreous enamel. (Earring loops in 18K gold.)
