Antique Victorian 19th Century Spindle Fuso Earrings Yellow Gold Portuguese 1887

About the Item

A pair of 19th century spindle pendant earrings in 19.2kt yellow gold, Portugal, circa 1887. This pair of Victorian era pendant earrings invariably called “Brincos de Fuso”, “Fusos” or "Ouro Popular" in Portuguese are composed of two articulated hollow parts, the surmount of a shield shape resembling a stylized giardinetto suspends a much longer drop-shape pendant. These earrings display typical Revivalism or Neo-Baroque influences, intricately decorated with naturalistic floral, foliate and scrolled motifs, while being rich in repoussé ornate goldwork, as well as stamped and chiseled decoration. Each earring is secured with its original and genuine lever-back fitting, with hallmark and maker's mark for the period. Dimensions: 10.2 x 2.1 cm. Gross weight: 16.1g. Portuguese "tiger II" mark for 800/1000 gold (used 1887-1937). Maker's mark for Oporto (Portuguese) jeweler Joaquim Soares (1987). Museum quality antique 18th century chrysolite chrysoberyl pendeloque pendant earrings, Portugal, circa 1770. Each earring of an openwork design with a navette shape cluster top suspending a ribbon-tied bow terminal from which hangs an elongated drop-shaped cluster, pave- and collet-set throughout with circular, marquise, cushion and calibre cut yellowish-green chrysoberyl stones close-set in silver. Museum Quality antique late 18th / early 19th century chrysolite chrysoberyl pendant drop earrings in silver and rose gold, probably Portugal, circa 1800. Of elongated and slightly exaggerated outline typical of the period, this design complimented the high hairstyles of the 18th century and would be the perfect jewel for a special event nowadays. Each earring of an openwork design with a navette-shape cluster top suspending a partially-articulated drop-shaped section with floral and foliate motifs and rose gold beading, set throughout with circular, marquise, cushion and calibre cut chrysoberyl stones close-set in silver.
