About the Item

"Rare" is a term I try to avoid because it has joined the pantheon of Words Stripped of Their Meaning Due to the Corrosive Effects of Overuse (see also: delicious, gourmet, amazing, genuine, authentic). But sometimes the old, worn-out word is best. All that to say: this exceedingly *rare* 24" necklace/bracelet is composed of 140 lab-certified natural and untreated kosmochlor-jadeite jade beads of the finest, richest and most vividly saturated emerald-green imaginable. They graduate in size from 2.69 mm to 5.21 mm, with a 14k yellow gold clasp that is entirely hand-fabricated and is set with one 11 mm x 5 mm extremely high-quality jadeite jade tear-shaped cabochon in "imperial" green. These beads are so intensely green and have such a high, glassy polish they don't seem real. I mean, nothing comes out of the ground—the dirt—looking like this, right? Except something does. Kosmochlor-jadeite is jade that includes an extra dose of the rare mineral kosmochlor. Jadeite is made of sodium, aluminum and silicate. Kosmochlor is made of sodium, *chromium* and silicate. Chromium is what gives Columbian emeralds and "imperial jade" their wonderful coloring. So jadeite and kosmochlor are similar but it's the rare kosmochlor that gives these jadeite beads their supernaturally intense green. You really can't go to a jewelry store anywhere in the world and ask for a fine kosmochlor-jadeite jade necklace. Almost nobody will know what on earth you are talking about. You can't buy these beads on eBay (you'll get dyed junk or maw-sit-sit). I had them strung into a 24" necklace that could do double-duty as a three-strand bracelet on a man's 7" wrist. If you love rich emerald green, you will fall instantly in love with this piece. It feels like the finest jadeite—cool, dense and luxurious—but with imperial-to-the-power-of-ten coloring.
