About the Item
This amazing, highly wearable early 20th century necklace features 28" of double-strand Prince of Wales chain joined by a shield-shaped slider pendant with a raised design, ruby cabochon accents and a baby tassel. Baby's parents dangle from the bottom of each chain end. You can wear this necklace cinched to any length up to 27" (leaving one inch for the slider) and if you have a slender neck, you can even wear it doubled up as a choker.
Prince of Wales chain is like rope chain, but much stronger. Each ring is attached to four other rings, so breaking the chain takes some effort. The rings are flat wire, subtly textured, that feel great against the skin -- lofty and substantial at the same time.
The closure is a matching box clasp (with figure 8 safety catch) set with three small ruby cabochons.
The backs of the clasp and the slider are stamped "14K" with a distinctive "A" in a spade-shaped seal. We weren't able to tie this mark to a specific manufacturer, but we suspect this necklace was made in the United States, sometime before 1920 but probably not before 1900.
This chain is 14 karat yellow gold. No part of it is filled, plated or rolled.

Princess Length Curb Chain with Toggle Closure & Tassel Ornament in Yellow Gold

Four different components came together to make this sexy 14 karat yellow gold chain.
The curb chain itself is standard jeweler's inventory that's been kicking around the store for a few years. Eytan Brandes removed the lobster clasp and added the toggle, which is newly cast from an antique silver toggle.
For the end ring, he pried one of the rings off of a boring brooch -- one of those pins where a cluster of rings makes a kind of wreath.
The ring looks great -- it's thick and has squared edges -- but it's hollow and too lightweight to stand up to the solid toggle. (Strangulation alert!)
Rather than lose the ring, Eytan decided to add some weight. The tassel -- from his mysterious pile of 1950's gold tassels acquired several years ago -- is his happy solution. It moves freely from a large matching bale and is the perfect finishing touch!
