A French Pendant Locket of museum quality with a scene of frolicking Cherubs (Putti, Angels) done En Grisaille, and set in a silver setting with magnificent Black Dot Paste stones. The early antique jewel dates to the early to mid 19th Century. The painting of the cherubs is "en grisaille," or in black and white and shades of grey. The painting is the work of a master - it has stunning details with the three cherubs frolicking with grapes and leaves, reminiscent of Bachus. The cherubs are set within a gorgeous silver pendant which is set with the very rare and highly desirable Black Dot Paste stones. On the reverse is a compartment with a removable back in which you may place a treasured photo or memento. The jewel has French guarantee marks as well as a maker's mark. The remarkable pendant locket is a delicate, romantic masterpiece of the Napoleonic era.
