21st Century 9 Karat Rose Gold and Diamond Open-Shank Cesellato Collar Necklace
About the Item
Understated and elegant, and 600 years in the making, this asymmetric 9K rose gold and .925 silver open-end collar is produced using the cesellato technique.
The necklace contains 1.75 carats of pavé-set, rose-cut white diamonds, each placed into two blackened drop (pear)-shaped disks of .925 silver. The large drop is 23.9 x 12.3 mm and the smaller one is 12.5 x 8.5 mm. The collar has a 5.1 x 7.1-inch opening (13 x 18 cm). The band and base of the collar are 9-karat rose gold.
This collection represents an art form which corresponds to the rich history of Sicily's capital city. In the fifteenth century, Albanian immigrants arrived in Palermo, bringing with them a method of jewellery-making which has become known as the “cesellato” technique. This method was preserved almost exclusively within the small city for the next 600-odd years despite several invasions of the southern Italian island which brought materials, fashions and techniques to Palermo which influenced, but did not negate the core of the cesellato method. What exists today is a jewellery technique unique almost specifically to Palermo. The collection is all hand-made using the cesellato method and repeated shapes, metals and stones.

The FANCS V workshop is situated in the heart of Sicily's capital city, Palermo. The jeweller is a three-generation Sicilian family business owned and run by Simona Elia and her husband Natale Vitale. Created by Natale's grandfather, FANCS V has grown from a goldsmith shop into a design studio where Simona, who trained in Milan, contributes signature collections to complement the custom pieces Natale produces for a dedicated client base.
